Photography serves as a profound therapeutic tool, offering a multitude of benefits for mental and emotional well-being. Through the lens, individuals can capture moments of beauty, significance, and personal expression, fostering a sense of mindfulness and presence in the present moment.

Engaging in photography encourages individuals to explore their surroundings with heightened awareness, stimulating creativity and curiosity. The act of composing and framing images provides a sense of control and empowerment, allowing individuals to express their unique perspectives and emotions visually.

Photography can serve as a form of self-reflection and introspection, enabling individuals to gain insights into their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. As individuals document their lives through photographs, they often discover new perspectives, find solace in moments of joy and beauty, and develop a deeper appreciation for the world around them. Ultimately, photography as therapy offers a powerful means of self-expression, healing, and personal growth.

This program has been developed by Maree McFarlane, a mental health social worker, and is offered in a group setting or can be tailored to meet the needs of individuals. This program is not about taking beautiful pictures nor is it a photography course. All you need is a camera (or phone with a camera) and a desire to learn more about yourself.
