Hi, it’s me, Mandie (She/Her), your child and adolescent therapist.
When you think of counselling do you think it'll be boring, maybe embarrassing, or something else that'll just exhaust you? Do others ask for you to try, as it will be helpful? I get it.. The first step can be the hardest, and the unknown can be daunting. However, if you can come in with an open mind I’ll give you the opportunity to see just how good counselling can be.
I want my clients to enjoy their time as much as possible, so you tell me your interests and I’ll try my best to tailor your interests with our sessions. While offering an opportunity to help you find a way to make life that little bit easier. Building a stronger sense of self, creating protective factors and/or understanding to the environments you live within. It's your journey to an improved lifestyle, and I assure a non-judgmental, safe and supportive space for individuals to uncover what they're looking for in session.
Academically, I started with the Cert IV of Community Services, and went on to complete a Diploma of Community Services, during this my passion to use my own life experience to help others grew. I now hold a Bachelor of Human Serices with a specialisation in child and adolescent welfare. I also maintain Mental Health - First Aid, Health and Wellbeing, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) certifications. I am commencing my Masters in Therapeutic Arts Practice in January 2024.
In my working journey, I have years' experience with disadvantaged communities including out of home care, and adolescent/family counselling services, where I offer strength based, solution focused, client led practices to support positive change for vulnerable and at-risk children, young people and their families.
I enjoy spending time in nature, whether it be collecting & skimming stones by the river with my adolescent daughter. I like to align my senses on a wholesome bush walk with my fur babies, Boof & Frank. In my downtime you'll also catch me painting, drawing, creating 'things' and playing (L plates) the keyboard. Exploring the region through adventure is a go-to, I'm also known to love a good movie/series or chill out in the world of gaming.
Last but most definitely not least, my healing experience. I hold great strength in the natural healing elements of mindfulness, eco therapy and the creative arts practices, as embracing these therapies allowed me to heal from complex issues endured throughout my 35 years of living. Yoga, crystal healing, meditation, journalling, and understanding the unearthed groundings within music and art. In this, I feel so much gratitude for the mind, body, & spirit in healing connection. I believe mother nature gifts us, and allows us to find new ways to create, and to remain forever inspired. Music is my soul food, offering us layers of balance to life.
