When grappling with grief and loss, creativity and expression serve as powerful tools for navigating the complex emotions that accompany these experiences. Artistic expression offers a safe space to channel feelings that may otherwise feel overwhelming or difficult to articulate. Whether through painting, writing, music, or other forms of creative outlet, individuals can externalize their inner turmoil, allowing for a sense of release and catharsis. By transforming pain into something tangible, creativity offers a means of processing grief in a way that feels authentic and healing.
Moreover, engaging in creative activities can foster a sense of connection and community during times of sorrow. Sharing artwork or personal expressions of grief can create bonds with others who are also navigating similar struggles. In this way, creativity becomes a bridge that connects individuals, providing solace and understanding in the midst of loss. Through collective expression, people find validation for their emotions and experiences, realizing that they are not alone in their journey through grief.
On Friday 2nd August, Phoenix Wings Wellness is offering an evening of creative expression for anyone who has experienced a grief event in their lives, ages 12 and up, including adults (we will have separate rooms for adults and young people). Join Mel, an experienced art therapist and social worker, to learn how we can use creativity in our lives to express and process grief. After Mel lost her 2 month old daughter from the complications of a genetic disorder, she found solace and relief in being creative (you can read more about it here). You'll need to bring some photos and/or items representative of the person or event that has caused the grief and loss. Grief and loss is not restricted to simply death, but could also be other significant events, such as house fire, debilitating illness, divorce/family breakdown.
Investment: $30 per person, includes art materials, and handout. Please bring your own snacks. Purchase your ticket below.
