Welcome to the Phoenix Play therapy group program with certified LEGO social and therapy facilitator Kristin Walsh.
Neuroaffirming play therapy and social skills groups offer profound benefits for children, particularly those with neurodivergent conditions such as being autistic, or having ADHD, or sensory processing differences. These groups provide a structured yet flexible environment where children can engage in play-based activities specifically designed to enhance social skills. Through guided interactions and collaborative play, children learn essential skills such as turn-taking, sharing, and conflict resolution in a supportive setting. This approach not only builds confidence but also fosters empathy and understanding towards peers who may have different communication styles or sensory preferences. By accommodating diverse needs and promoting inclusivity, neuroaffirming play therapy groups help children develop a positive self-concept and a sense of belonging within their social circles.
Moreover, these groups facilitate tailored interventions that address each child's unique challenges and strengths. Trained therapists and facilitators utilise evidence-based strategies to teach social cues, emotional regulation techniques, and problem-solving skills through playful activities. This method not only makes learning enjoyable but also reinforces concepts in a way that resonates with the children's sensory and cognitive profiles. As children engage in cooperative play and structured social interactions, they gain valuable practice in navigating social norms and developing meaningful connections with peers. Over time, participation in neuroaffirming play therapy and social skills groups can lead to improved social competence, reduced anxiety in social settings, and enhanced overall well-being for children with neurodivergent conditions.
This group program uses principles from a widely accepted therapeutic intervention of using LEGO therapy games and activities, and is about building capacity, inclusivity, social connection, team work, communication, and using your imagination, in a sensory safe environment. Aimed at Grades 3-6, for 4 participants, please note this is a commitment for all 8 weekly sessions. Snacks included, please let us know of any dietary requirements.
