Karina Kerr (Albury/Corowa/Online)
For Karina, family is at the heart of everything. She believes in enjoying life's sweet moments, and she loves sharing her motto: 'Life is short, eat dessert first!'—especially with her grandchildren. Karina adores colour, particularly purple, but she finds rainbows simply amazing! Like many in the helping field, Karina’s own lived experiences have profoundly shaped her worldview. She values integrity, inclusion, and compassion, and she strives to live by these values every day. This includes self-compassion, acknowledging that growth comes from making mistakes and learning from them. She truly believes we are all a constant work in progress. As a proud dyslexic, Karina has different learning and processing abilities, but this hasn't held her back from a lifelong love of learning.
As a practitioner and leader, Karina is deeply committed to Trauma-Informed principles of safety, trust, choice, collaboration, empowerment, and respect for diversity. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a double major in Sociology and Politics (2005), a Master in Social and Organisational Leadership (2023), and a Graduate Certificate in Family Dispute Resolution (2011). She has completed Clinical Supervision training and extensive professional development in family counselling, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and much more. Karina began her career in the early 2000s in the homelessness sector, later moving to Upper Murray Family Care. There, she trained as a Dispute Resolution Practitioner and then managed the Family Relationship Centre. She then led Headspace Albury Wodonga and Wangaratta, working with Gateway Health. Karina continues to expand her expertise in Trauma-Informed practice, workforce development, leadership, mentoring, and organizational development. Her belief in continuous growth and learning through self-awareness and education has led her to pursue a Master of Social Work (Professional Qualifying) with Charles Sturt University.
Mental health is Karina’s passion, from Trauma-Informed practice to amplifying lived experience voices. She understands that life is complex, filled with struggles, grief, loss, and unmet expectations. Karina works within a narrative practice framework, empowering people to grow from their own experiences and valuing their inherent knowledge and skills. She has extensive experience in providing supervision, addressing workplace stress, navigating organisational change, resolving family conflict, facilitating family or relationship therapy, and helping individuals understand and befriend their anxiety. Karina has worked with people at all life stages, from young people exploring their identities to parents seeking support and individuals navigating life span transitions. She has helped countless individuals navigate workplace stress and organizational change, empowering them to find new paths forward.
